4 Validation Checkpoints
Run these tests during your trial week. Each checkpoint maps to a real workflow you’ll need in production.
Checkpoint 1: Ingestion (Day 1–2)
Point the tool at your ComfyUI output folder (or wherever your generation tool saves files). Answer these questions:
- Does the tool detect new files automatically, or do you need to manually import?
- After import, can you see the original ComfyUI workflow JSON? The prompt text? The seed and sampler?
- If you import a Midjourney image downloaded from Discord, does any metadata survive?
- How long does it take to import 100 files? 1,000?
Checkpoint 2: Search (Day 2–3)
With at least 100 assets imported, test search across multiple dimensions:
- By prompt keywords: Search for a specific term you know appears in your prompts. Does the tool find the right images?
- By model name: Can you filter to only images generated with a specific model (e.g., SDXL, Flux)?
- By date range: Can you find everything from last Tuesday?
- By visual similarity: Pick a reference image. Can the tool find visually similar ones?
Checkpoint 3: Export and Exit (Day 4–5)
This is the test most people skip, and it’s the most important. Try to leave.
- Export 50 assets. Do the originals come out at full resolution?
- Does the export include metadata? In what format (XMP sidecar, embedded IPTC, JSON dump)?
- Can you configure what metadata to include vs strip? (Critical for client delivery.)
- If you re-import the exported files into a different tool, does the metadata survive?
Checkpoint 4: Compliance Readiness (Day 5–7)
With the EU AI Act Article 50 deadline approaching (August 2026), test whether the tool can support your compliance needs:
- Can you store IPTC 2025.1 AI metadata fields (model identification, training data declaration)?
- Can you produce an audit trail showing when an asset was created, by what model, and with what parameters?
- Can you embed machine-readable AI disclosure in exported files?

Migration Tips: Planning Your Exit
Whichever tool you choose, have an exit plan. Here’s what portability looks like for each:
- From Eagle: Export your library as files + JSON descriptors. You’ll need a script to convert Eagle’s JSON metadata to XMP or another standard format. Eagle’s API helps here.
- From Hydrus: Export files + tag mappings. Hydrus’s tag export includes namespace structure, which is more information than most tools need. Plan for tag simplification.
- From Bridge: Your metadata is already in XMP. You can switch to any XMP-aware tool with zero metadata loss.
- From Numonic: Export with the “archive” preset to get originals + full metadata. We’re building towards IPTC-embedded export for maximum portability.
