AI Metadata

Structured information embedded in or associated with AI-generated content that describes how the content was produced. This includes model identifiers, prompt text, generation parameters (seed, steps, CFG scale), and workflow configurations.

AI metadata is the technical foundation for provenance, compliance, and reproducibility. Different AI tools store metadata differently: ComfyUI embeds workflow JSON in PNG tEXt chunks, Midjourney stores parameters in Discord message text, and Stable Diffusion UIs use various EXIF and PNG metadata fields.

The challenge is that AI metadata is fragile. Social media platforms strip it on upload, image editors discard it during saves, and many workflow tools never capture it in the first place. An AI-native DAM system must extract, normalize, and preserve this metadata across the asset lifecycle.
