Prompt Metadata

The text prompts, negative prompts, and associated generation settings captured alongside an AI-generated asset. Prompt metadata enables search, categorization, and reproduction of creative outputs across teams and workflows.

Prompt metadata encompasses more than the user-visible text prompt. It includes negative prompts (what to avoid), prompt weighting and emphasis syntax, embedding references (textual inversions, LoRA triggers), and the prompt encoding parameters (CLIP skip level, token limit handling).

In practice, prompt metadata is scattered across different locations depending on the tool: ComfyUI stores it in PNG tEXt chunks, Automatic1111 uses PNG info text and EXIF, and Midjourney embeds it in the PNGs. Normalizing and preserving prompt metadata across these sources is a core challenge for AI asset management.
